Joel co-founded Democratic political strategy and media firm Left Hook. Left Hook has helped elect dozens of state, congressional, senatorial and gubernatorial candidates to office including 8/40 congressional seats Democrats flipped this November.
In addition to working with political candidates and non-profit organizations, Joel runs the firm's digital and corporate practices.
Previously, Joel served as Chief of Staff of ABC News, where he played a key role in the strategic planning and day-to-day management of the news division.
He also served as Chief Strategy Officer of Fusion – at the time a joint-venture between Disney/ABC & Univision – where he oversaw the marketing, communications, research, on-air promos and business development departments through the company's launch.
After ABC and Fusion, Joel founded Y Combinator fellow Palaround – a social network marketing tech startup.
He practically grew up in TV and digital newsrooms: interning at CNN, CBS News, MTV and El Tiempo Latino and after college covering the 2008 election for NBC/MSNBC as a News Associate.
Joel earned a Juris Doctor and Master in Business Administration from Cornell University in just three years while serving as president of the law school’s student government. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Duke University, where he served as a Vice President of the student government and class council chair.
